Babies!

Stephan and I have been giving a lot of thought lately to the important task of naming our prospective children. After much deliberation, we have come up with the following child-naming programs:

Names Ending in “-airy”
Like Barry, Carrie, Gary, Harry, Jerry, Larry, Mary, Perry, Sari, Terry. We will also use all alternate spellings, such as Kari, Merry, and Parry. The jury is still out on Airy, Dairy, Ferry, Nary, Very, and Wary, as it turns out that these words have already been assigned values in our language. Also, we are leaning toward just pulling the names out of a hat at the appropriate moment of christening, but we have considered beginning at one or the other end of the alphabet. We will continue using these names until they or the children run out, whichever comes first.

Months of the Year
We know what you’re thinking: it’s been done. But wait(!): our way is much better. First, there will be no correspondence with the month in which a particular child is actually born, unless it’s an accidental correspondence when we assign his or her name using one of the methods described above. And second, whichever child has the good fortune of landing on July will find that his (or perhaps her) name is in fact pronounced “Joo-lee.”

It’s not like we would saddle any poor child with Moon Unit or Audio Science.
