Work permit: approved. Online visa application: submitted. Biometrics appointment in Portland: next week. Tentative flight to UK: 2.5 weeks.
One of the questions on the visa application, right after all of the questions about my criminal offenses, assorted war crimes, and whether I had ever been involved in, supported, or otherwise encouraged terrorism:
Have you engaged in any other activities that might indicate that you may not be considered a person of good character?
1. Sometimes, when I’m driving somewhere in a hurry, I pretend not to notice pedestrians waiting on the curb to cross the street.
2. And, um, sometimes I let my mom’s phone calls go to voicemail? (Sorry, Mom! Love you!)
But I always let people merge in front of me on the freeway, and I always call her back eventually, so I went ahead and answered “no.”

To Whom It May Concern:
It was a Leatherman multitool that I forgot was in the glove box. Please let me in your country!
Hey! I will be home for spring break a week from this Friday! Will you still be here? I would love to see you before you leave! Let me know!
Would your I hate Poetry club be a form of terrorism? I think I might have to say yes on that one!
