England: An Entirely Different Country

Have I told you that we’re moving to England, Internets? For real, this time. Tickets in hand, even (itineraries, anyway).

I’ve realized yesterday that I’ve never been anywhere older than about 300 years, excepting Chaco Canyon and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump which I’m not counting because they’re natural features and/or not continuous civilizations.

My good friend Eddie Izzard told me this story once about the American response to renovations in Miami that were restoring some hotels to how they were over 50 years ago: “No, surely not. No one was alive then!” Which is kind of how I feel.

He also told me that the U.S. and England are two countries separated by the Atlantic Ocean.

Which I will be crossing sometime during the night of March 24; I’ve never even seen it before.

Seven more wake ups!
