One of my favorite things about England is how you can actually kind of tell where you are by the dog breed. Lots of West Highland terriers in the Scottish West Highlands, and lots of Staffordshire bull terriers where we live (basically Staffordshire). We were a little confused at first, because they look a lot like pit bulls, only smaller, and pit bulls are banned in the UK.
Most of our British wildlife sightings have been limited to animals of the domestic or roadkill variety (badger, fox, hedgehog), but we have also managed to observe:
Some kind of deer crossing our path whilst on walkies in Cannock Chase
Tiny baby frogs that were so small (about a centimeter long) that I thought they were crickets at first
A red squirrel yesterday in the Lake District (native to the UK, but endangered—North American eastern gray squirrels were introduced in the 19th century, and not only take over red squirrel territory, but are carriers of a virus that kills off the red squirrels who are just minding their own cute little red squirrel business)
But we did manage to see one before they were totally decimated. Next on our list: wallabies!
