Next time your mum comes to visit, you should probably take her to Europe’s largest quilt show. You will probably find that the quilts not of the wacky-art-you-don’t-understand variety generally fall into three basic categories:
Basic and/or traditional, standard fare
Aesthetically inspirational
Technically amazing
I personally have this problem where I’m not much impressed by machine quilting. I know that I probably should be, but my brain won’t cooperate. So your quilt took 600 hours over 9 months? Looks like you know how to manipulate software and/or machinery. Neat. My irrational standards demand handstitching, people! Not like this little guy (grand prize winner, machine quilted over the 600 hours mentioned above):

What! That fabric of the cowboys is crazy! I can’t believe it :) I think I would have been laughing so hard I would have been kicked out. Thanks for posting!
I’ve seen some like it at Fabric Depot, only I think it was firemen or construction workers or something of that burly nature.
Wow…I certainly can see now why you and your mom went to that quilt show.. I buy novelty fabric all the time and haven’t found anything like him to bring home. Hmmmm…
