Best Christmas Ever

So we arrived in Portland almost 2 weeks ago, just in time for the 26th anniversary of the happiest day of my mom’s life and record-setting snowfall. I’m kind of glad that we were here for the snow, if only so we can bore our assorted progeny 40 years hence. It’s the Columbus Day Storm of the new millennium. Only fewer tragedies and more holiday appropriateness.

Most of the four suitcases we brought from the UK were chock full of Christmas crackers, a festive British tradition of which we approve. They look like this:

[Why this is funny: English accents like to pretend that words ending in "ah" should really end in "ahr," so if you were of such an accent, you might say this more like "do-you-think-he-sawr-us" which is awfully close to "...saur-us" and for all I know is identical when pronounced in British English; dinosaurs don't come up in conversation much HAHAHA and we all had a good laugh.]

Kind of like when this American friend of ours was visiting us recently and liked to tell us about “Ameriker” and “Amerikerns.” And how the queen is a “hottie,” a judgment with which I think we can all agree.
